English/ESL Teacher (Full Time Position commencing Term 1 2011)
SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
St Martins is a school of the Lutheran Church with an enrolment of over 500 students from Reception to Year 12.
A dynamic teacher of English is required to teach students in years 8 – 10 and possibly to Year 11 and 12. Knowledge of the SACSA framework and SACE Stage 1 and 2 English is expected. Liaison with the English key teacher in the Primary School, a supportive working partnership with the other secondary teachers, and the ability to work with the whole team of teachers in an expanding secondary area is an essential part of the position.
In addition a teacher of ESL, preferably with experience with refugee communities is required for SACE Stage 1 ESL.
All teachers at St Martins are expected to uphold the Christian ethos of the College.
This position will commence at the beginning of the 2011 academic year.
Curriculum
- Assist with the delivery of an English curriculum that has continuity and progression from Years 7-12.
- Ability to teach English at SACE Stage 1 and at Years 8 and/or 10.
- Ability to teach ESL at SACE Stage 1 and to support staff in working with ESL students
- Establish effective procedures for the development, documentation and publication of curriculum and student learning activities in English.
- Develop effective use of ICTs within the English classroom
- Assist with effective assessment and reporting in English.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the English team and the Head of the Secondary School.
Students and learning
- Engage students in learning activities appropriate to their strengths and weaknesses.
- Work with the School Support Officers to modify curriculum for students with special needs and interests.
- Contribute to co curricular activities including competitions, outdoor education and other areas of interest and skill.
- Encourage excellence in English within the student body.
- Demonstrate an understanding of content and pedagogy which improves learning outcomes for secondary students in the senior school.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the articulation of the English and ESL subject areas and the requirements of SACE Stage I and/or II
Personal Abilities and Skills:
- Commitment to the Christian aims of the College.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a team in developing, establishing and implementing and monitoring curriculum.
Qualifications
- Degree and graduate qualifications in education or related discipline.
- Tertiary qualifications and teaching experience relevant to the English learning area.
- Active membership of a relevant subject association or subject related committees.
- Registration as a teacher or able to be registered as a teacher in South Australia.

Mathematics Coordinator (Full Time Position commencing Term 1 2011)
SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
St Martins College is a school of the Lutheran Church. The primary school was established in 1982, and the expansion into secondary commenced in 2004. St Martins graduated its first Year 12 students in 2008. The College is continuing to grow. This expansion results in the need for additional staff in a number of areas, including Mathematics. The successful candidate will need to be able to teach Year 12 Mathematical Studies and Year 11/12 Mathematical Applications. One or more classes of Year 8-10 Mathematics will also be included.
All teachers at St Martins Lutheran College are expected to
- Uphold the Christian ethos of the College, including attending homegroup, secondary and whole school worship
- Liaise with other faculty members and have the ability to work with the whole team of teachers and the Head of Secondary in an expanding secondary area
- Assist in the development and delivery of curriculum that has continuity and progression from Year 7-12 and which engages students in learning activities which are appropriate to their strengths and weaknesses
- be involved in the development and delivery of the new SACE curriculum if teaching at Year 11 or 12
- Have an understanding of content and pedagogy in their curriculum area which leads to improved outcomes for secondary students, including those who have barriers hindering their learning
- Establish and maintain effective procedures for the development, documentation and publication of curriculum and student learning activities within their subject area
- Develop effective use of ICTs within the classroom
- Provide effective assessment and reporting to parents
- Understand and exercise good Occupational Health and Safety practices as relevant to their area
- Be involved as a home group teacher
- Contribute to the co curricula program of the school, including attending one Year level camp throughout the year.
Learning Area Coordinators
In addition to the general responsibilities of teaching staff, learning area coordinators are expected to
- Model and actively promote excellence in teaching practice in their learning area
- Initiate and engage in professional discussion with faculty members about the subject and their teaching practice
- Demonstrate leadership within the faculty and work with the faculty and senior staff to improve outcomes for students, including those who are gifted or have barriers to their learning
- Maintain an overview of the curriculum in their learning area, ensuring that it meets state and/or national expectations, and that the continuity and progression from year to year is appropriate
- Disseminate subject based information and be the point of contact and an advocate for the learning area
- Develop the strategic plan and the annual budget for the learning area
- Meet with the other coordinators as ‘Curriculum Committee’ on a regular basis.

Primary Teacher (Contract Term 4 2010)
St Martins is a school of the Lutheran Church. A teacher at St Martins is expected to support the Christian ethos of the College. Teaching involves the Academic, Spiritual, Emotional, Social, Cultural and Physical development of the child through the care of the child in and out of the classroom, in keeping with the expectations of the college.
It is expected that a teacher at St Martins be prepared to:
- Lead student devotions and staff devotions on a rotating roster where applicable
- Teach the required curriculum as is determined by the college (currently within the SACSA and SACE frameworks).
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff
- Co-operate with specialist teachers to enhance the educational program in the classroom and college generally.
- Carry out duties and various requirements as outlined in the Staff Handbook
- Be involved in extra curricular activities concerning children, staff, and college families and the St Martins Community.
- Support the executive staff (Principal / Heads of School) and ancillary staff (office and classroom assistants) in their work
- Maintain open communication with parents and caregivers.
- Fulfill the requirements of the college on reporting and assessment of students.
- Regularly inform parents of their student’s progress at the end of term and other times as necessary.
- Teachers in Lutheran schools are required to fulfill the expectations of LSA for the teaching of Christian Studies
- Attend staff meeting on Tuesday afternoon for all full time teachers and part time teachers working on that day.
- Part-time teachers are required to participate in college life in proportion to the fraction of time for which they are employed.

Secondary School Coordinator (5 Year Contract)
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Summary of the broad purpose of the job in relation to the College’s goals.
The Secondary School Coordinator has oversight of the secondary curriculum, student programs, student staffing and day to day management of the secondary school (Years 7-12).
The Secondary School Coordinator will support the Christian ethos of the College as a school of the Lutheran Church of Australia.
Reporting / Working Relationships
- Responsible to the Principal
- Work collaboratively with Head of Primary School and Principal on the College executive team.
- Membership of the Curriculum Committee.
- Oversight and coordination of middle management staff and their program.
Special Conditions
- The Secondary School Coordinator is employed under the terms and conditions specified in the Lutheran Schools Enterprise Agreement.
- Out of business hours involvement is expected and some holiday work may be required.
- Active membership of the Lutheran Church, or other Christian Church.
Extent of Authority
- Responsible for the daily oversight of the Secondary School, including leadership of staff, behaviour management, daily organisation and time tabling in consultation with the Principal.
- Deputise for the Principal or Deputy as required.
