Mathematics

Our mathematics program at St Martins is based on the understanding that mathematics is a basic essential skill needed not only in the classroom but beyond in the wider world. We believe that mathematics can be fun, exciting and challenging.

Our teachers prepare all their lessons using the Lutheran Developmental Continuum as well as the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability (SACSA) outcome based program as a guide. All lessons are carefully planned allowing for intervention and extension for those that need it. We have a large bank of apparatus allowing for the concrete, hands-on experiences that are so necessary, especially in the early years. Students are encouraged to use effective mathematical language and to record their finding in a way that makes sense to them and to others. They are encouraged to communicate what they are thinking and ask questions to assist them in solving problems.

Our aim is to help every child become a successful, independent and confident mathematician.
